10 Things Alan Wake Knows About Washington State That You Don't

Playing Remedy's recent game Alan Wake, our staff from Washington State couldn't help but feel right at home wandering through the woods, drinking coffee, and nearly driving off cliffs. And while some things were a little off, we appreciated the little taste of home, and couldn't help but be surprised at the little differences. We decided to compile a quick list to highlight the lesser known accuracies the game managed to get down pat, making us miss our home region.

1. We make everything of wood.

2. Our wilderness is a loose association of trails carved by General Washington with his bare teeth.

3. If you insert the word "Nordic", you have an instant audience.

4. With our high population of Scandinavians, we know it's pronounced "Tor", not "Thor".

5. We made up festivals based around animals so we can have festivals.

6. We needlessly celebrate the founders of half of our towns, Lewis & Clark.

7. Camping on the Olympic Peninsula is a great weekend getaway. No punchline here, it's just a really great place.

8. The toxic water in Cauldron Lake was inspired by the toxic water in Puget Sound.

9. You can easily get lost as the entire peninsula looks the same. Identical. And beautiful.

10. There's hardly anyone on the Olympic Peninsula, so driving for long stretches without seeing anyone is likely. I hear from several very young and immature girls that they're all busy being either vampires, werewolves, or torn between the two, though I've seen no evidence of it myself.

Ah Remedy, who knew Scandinavians could make me miss my Scandinavian-infested roots and home? We tip our collective hat to you, sirs.
