Work On The Grinder Wii Slowed; E3 Build Same As Last Year's

During E3 2010 last week, we snuck our way behind-the-scenes and jumped at the chance to play through a demo of High Voltage Software's latest B-movie horror-fest, The Grinder. After spending quite a long time slogging through the monster-laden mines of the game's demo with other esteemed members of the press, we walked away fairly impressed with the title, although there was one nagging issue that we couldn't shake.

Where was the Wii version of this game? Why were we only able to play the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions? We detailed the trials and tribulations of the little red-faced Wii that contained the playable Wii demo for The Grinder in this piece, but suffice it to say: I figured that had this not happened, we would have been demoing the Wii version of the title and marveling at the progress it has made since last year.

Apparently, according to several sources at High Voltage, progress might be an issue with this title. We were told by multiple people in the know that the Wii version of The Grinder that HVS had brought to E3 was basically identical to the one seen last year at E3 2009. Since the game is still without a publisher and High Voltage decided to develop an alternate version for Xbox 360 and PS3, work on the Wii version has slowed until a publisher signs on to the project. Bear in mind that the keyword here is slowed. Work on the Wii version hasn't stopped, it's merely delayed for the time being.

Due to all this, I can only imagine that High Voltage dodged a bullet when SEGA's debug unit blew up. If they had brought out a year-old build of their game in front of the field of rabid press eager to twist the knife, then things might have ended poorly. As it stood, bringing no version of the game was probably better than bringing an old one.
