High Voltage had the recently delayed (until 2011) Conduit 2 on display at PAX 2010, though it was the same build as the E3 version, bugs and all. Luckily, I was able to glean some new information regarding this promising sequel.

The core of Conduit 2 is very similar to the first, right down to the fully customizable control scheme. And unsurprisingly, the game still controls fantastically. In the build on display, we trekked through a large sea vessel cruising through the Atlantic ocean that’s on a search for Atlantis. Unfortunately for the crew, the ship falls under attack from Atlantis’s guardian, a giant sea serpent, who’ll make sporadic appearances, usually taking members of the crew with it.

Although the demo featured only human enemies (besides the giant sea serpent), the developer assured us that the final game will feature a far greater variety of enemies than the first game. He also pointed out that many of the bugs present in the demo, such as slight delays when switching weapons, have already been addressed. However, this also seemed to be the primary motivator for the game’s delay to 2011.

What wasn’t cause for the delay though was the recent announcement that Conduit 2 would have support for the Classic Controller. Apparently, this feature took all of “a day” to implement, and they were driven to include such so they could maintain feature parity with the new Goldeneye game from Acclaim. We should have hands-on impressions of this new addition tomorrow (Saturday) night, so stay tuned! Unfortunately, while the Conduit 2 may feature almost everything but the kitchen sink, it seems GameCube controller support is not in the cards.

Conduit 2 is shaping up to be a solid shooter and we’re eager for more. Stay tuned for our further impressions of how it plays with the Classic Controller tomorrow!
