E3 2011: Insomniac's Overstrike Pre-Strikes E3!

Insomniac’s multi-platform game for Xbox and PS3 was finally unveiled today at EA’s press conference. All we got to see though was the look and feel of the game’s style in a pre-rendered trailer and not any actual gameplay. Overstrike is colorful, cartoony and humorous with zany weapons more along the lines of Rachet & Clank than Resistance. For instance, one of the weapons was an expanding goo gun that stuck an enemy to a wall.



Overstrike promises four-player co-op in an action game. Based on what was shown in the trailer, I’d judge it will be third person in order to have more platforming elements and to appreciate the characters. The Overstrike team is comprised of four different classes: an ex-mercenary that looked a lot like a friendly Sam Fisher, a wanted thief (ninja), a scientist that could cloak, and a detective. The enemies looked like mad scientist henchmen fare with their leader being a multi-armed cyborg.

Overstrike has Insomniac’s track record to back it up but we’ll have to see what the gameplay has to say. Also, it could be a long ways off with no release window announced yet.
