Welcome back to the jungle! Ubisoft announced at their E3 briefing that Far Cry 3 is coming in 2012 and is returning to its jungle origins. Thankfully, an actual demo was played and was not some pre-rendered trailer. The luscious tropical graphics looked better than ever, perhaps even better than Crysis 1.

The demo started off with a mercenary repeatedly explaining the definition of insanity is doing something over and over again. This all happened in a first-person view with the player showing distress at his poorly bound hands. Finally, the mercenary kicks a cinder block into a chasm, with a rope trailing behind it attached to the player.  Falling into water, the player barely escapes death and goes on to kick ass in the jungle as you would expect in Far Cry. The demo ended with a botched helicopter getaway thanks to a rocket, only to meet the mercenary from before to start all over again.

The draw distance of the game is still as far as the eye can see. In Far Cry 2, Ubisoft moved away from mutants and offered a new environment. With Far Cry 3 looking so much like the original, we can only hope it offers something new other than better graphics.
