Monday morning has come and gone and so has the last of the major E3 presentations. Nintendo has finally named the successor to the Wii, the Wii U with its revolutionary touch screen controller, but it’s what they didn’t announce that has us a little disappointed here at GameXplain. Here is a list of our top five disappointment from Nintendo’s conference.
-
No Major Confirmed 3rd Party Support for Wii U
While EA showed their support, having John Riccitiello on stage praising the revolutionary new vision from Nintendo; there was just no confirmation of dedicated support for a system aimed at bringing back the core gamer. Outside of a few titles from THQ and Namco Bandai, Nintendo failed to release a list of other companies on board. Are developers taking a wait and see stance with the Wii U? -
No New 3DS 3rd Party Support
We already knew about Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid 3 from last year’s show. Where was the new support from developers outside of Nintendo? Mario Kart 3D, Super Mario 3D, Luigi’s Mansion 2; while all exciting titles have us worried that developers will be leaning towards the Sony Vita when it comes to delivering next generation portable development. -
Not enough Zelda: Skyward Sword:
While Nintendo learned some lessons from last year’s technical blunders playing Skyward Sword, there was just not enough information presented about the Wii’s last epic title. What’s the story premise? What’s the theme/conflict of this new title? How has the game evolved? Hopefully the playable demo on the show floor will alleviate some of these pressing questions. -
Death of Wii
Outside of Zelda: Skyward Sword Nintendo showed no hopes for the system having any sort of success during the Holiday. It makes sense since 3DS and Wii U will be their focus moving forward. But what about the millions of casual gamers who want something new now? Is this the impression Nintendo wants to give its casual fans this Holiday? -
Where was Retro Studios?
With the Metroid Prime series and last year’s amazing Donkey Kong Country Returns under the belt, no information to what this Nintendo power house is up to was a letdown. After Team Ninja butchered Samus in Metroid: Other M is Retro Studios going to be the ones to return the series to form? Or are they making a fresh new DK adventure? Hopefully TGS (Tokyo Game Show) will fill us in on what they have in store.
