During the Halo 4 PAX panel, 343 Industries let slip a few details which offers some insight into the direction of the new trilogy.

First, the developers confirmed Halo 4 is a continuation of the story featured in the original trilogy and spin-off titles. They are also looking to give a more intimate look at the man behind the Master Chief mask, otherwise known as John-117. They noted that while the books have explored Master Chief’s origin, most Halo players are completely unaware of this backstory. Altthough they won’t betray the “man of few words” typecast Master Chief is known for, they did hint that Master Chief may be a little less tight-lipped than in past games.

Speaking of Master Chief, the developers also confirmed that the model seen in the Halo 4 trailer is not at all final, and was actually the fourth revision. Expect further changes in the final version.
.
Unfortunately, while the developers didn’t discount the possibility of a beta for Halo 4, they did confirm that access codes will not be included with Halo Anniversary. They also weren’t able to confirm whether the original voice actors would be returning, due to spoilers, but it was strongly suggested that the voice of Cortana would be back.
